چکیده

We review and present new results on the transient elastography problem, where the goal is to reconstruct shear stiffness properties using interior time and space dependent displacement measurements. We present unique identifiability of two parameters for this inverse problem, establish that a Lipschitz continuous arrival time satisfies the eikonal equation, and present two numerical algorithms, simulation results, and a reconstruction example using a phantom experiment accomplished by Mathias Fink’s group (the Laboratoire Ondes et Acoustique, ESPCI, Université Paris VII). One numerical algorithm uses a geometrical optics expansion and the other utilizes the arrival time surface. Submitted to: Inverse Problems ∗ Submitted on June 30, 2003

Using level set based inversion of arrival times to recover shear wave speed in transient elastography and supersonic imaging

Transient elastography and supersonic imaging are promising new techniques for characterizing the elasticity of soft tissues. Using this method, an ‘ultrafast imaging’ system (up to 10 000 frames s−1) follows in real time the propagation of a low-frequency shear wave. The displacement of the propagating shear wave is measured as a function of time and space. Here we develop a fast level set bas...

Improving arrival time identification in transient elastography.

In this paper, we improve the first step in the arrival time algorithm used for shear wave speed recovery in transient elastography. In transient elastography, a shear wave is initiated at the boundary and the interior displacement of the propagating shear wave is imaged with an ultrasound ultra-fast imaging system. The first step in the arrival time algorithm finds the arrival times of the she...

Topical Review

Elastography is emerging as an imaging modality that can distinguish normal versus diseased tissues via their biomechanical properties. This paper reviews current approaches to elastography in three areas—quasi-static, harmonic and transient—and describes inversion schemes for each elastographic imaging approach. Approaches include first-order approximation methods; direct and iterative inversi...

Mathematical and numerical modeling of elastic waves propagation in the heart

The objective of this thesis is to develop a rigorous mathematical and numerical background for the extension and dissemination of imaging modalities by ultrasound, i.e. elastic waves, applied to the cardiac settings. The problems treated will concerned the topics of mathematical modeling, numerical analysis and scientific computing. More precisely we plan to define a linearized model for the p...
